At our one-day programme, children are immersed in nature and encouraged to explore the environment through hands-on experiences and inquiry-based learning, which also promotes wellbeing and an enthusiasm for physical activities.

Through their daily play, the children will work on the five key competencies identified by the New Zealand Curriculum (Thinking, Relating to Others, Using Language, Symbols and Text, Managing Self, and Participating and Contributing).

We provide children with the opportunity to connect with nature and develop a deep appreciation for the natural world. This not only fosters a sense of environmental stewardship/kaitiakitanga, but also supports the development of important life skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration.

A typical day will run as follows:

9:00am - Welcome

Meeting, greeting everybody, asking the children what they would like to do today.

Getting the children involved in site assessment so they are aware of the potential risks for the day (e.g. today it is raining, the ground is more slippery than usual.....)

9:30am to 2:45pm - Child-led learning

Children follow their interests, whether it be climbing trees, shelter making, whitling, making fires..... The children will be supported throughout the day when the need arises.

Children will be encouraged to gather and make food together on the camp fire (toasties, popcorn, friendship soup, dampers.......)

2:45pm - Evaluation

Children to pick what they enjoyed for the day and reflect on their day.

3:00pm - Pick up

Children can be collected back at the Scouts Hall.

The cost of the programme is $70 a day and you have to commit to a whole term.
